9 Check string heights:
The height of the strings above the fingerboard is checked. There should be enough space to prevent the string hitting the board when bowed. More clearance is allowed for the G string, which travels further in its excitement than the lighter strings.

When the strings are tuned to playing pitch, the instrument deforms in response to the load from the strings, therefore, string height adjustments are made with the instrument tuned to concert pitch. Furthermore, string types vary considerably in their playing tension so an old set of strings of the same type used by the player will be used during the bridge fitting process.
